On the 14th of August, in the very centre of Riga, on an island in the river Daugava, MADARA Cosmetics organised MADARA Festival of Good Thoughts and Sensations. It was the first festival in the company's history with around 2000 visitors. Festival took place from 2pm until 4am at night, and during this time the visitors made around 500 pieces of soaps, scrubs and perfumes with Nordic summer fragrances. Festival was created to give peace, freedom and positive energy exchange, facilitated by musicians, dance performance, selected delicacies in the eco market, natural fashion show and, of course, the visitors themselves. Activities for children, sunny weather, mohitos with MADARA Drinks and fresh ingredients and the calming effect of the surrounding water made the festival's atmosphere a very relaxed and happy one.

Summer is not over yet. Festivals still happen all over Latvia, almost every weekend, all you have to do is spare the weekend. We also like to use every free moment to go out of the city and escape right in the arms of nature. Not always it is possible to get there by bike, on foot, or in a yacht, or a boat, therefore the car can sometimes be rather useful to 'go wild'.

MADARA has made friends with Toyota Prius hybrid car, which is ingeniously designed to save our planet, and energy. We would like to offer this eco-alternative to our MADARA store visitors – car-drivers – by becoming MADARA ecofriend and having an opportunity to get a holiday test drive for free.

What is the Toyota Prius then? 

Toyota Prius is visually lovely car that takes care of our future, it has the highest fuel economy in its class, low emissions and other advantages that hybrid cars possess.

This all certainly sounds very good, but here are some facts for all and every car-driver that we have prepared together with hybrid car experts:

  • Avoid the use of the car for short trips. 
  • Plan your own itinerary and travel by the shortest route. 
  • Do the acceleration evenly. 
  • Remove any extra weight in the car and on the roof. 
  • Check tire pressure regularly.
  • Take care of the car maintenance according to manufacturer's manual. 
  • Use air-conditioning only when necessary. 
  • Try to observe and predict traffic flow.

When the summer had just started in Latvia's countryside, we held a photo session for MADARA styling in the fashion magazine "Pastaiga". Due to the slightly different focus of the brand style presented in the styling pages the result was fresh, unusual, surprising, just like nature every spring. The ripeness of the northern summers in the Baltic meadows. Take a look and sense it yourself.

MADARA Export Partner Seminar

In the summer, when Baltic flowers bloom and nature is at its most powerful, MADARA hosts a special event for all export partners.It happened from 19th-21st  of June in Latvia.

MADARA seminar was visited by 19 partners from 13 countries. First, there was a visit to the factory, but after everyone was transported to a unique place in the countryside  - Annas Hotel  - to have workshops, product training  and to share experiences.

Of course..the most fun part of the training - the long evening :)..enjoying Latvian sauna rituals, where Lotte made a wonderful strawberry scrub for body. And MADARA's big goal - to show and to take part in Latvia's famous Midsummer Night celebration.

We hope that our guests enjoyed the special atmosphere of the Latvian countryside.

MADARA has received many nominations in HerWorld beauty award contest! 

MADARA Regenerating Lip Balm is nominated under "Lip balms" and MADARA Decoface Sun Flower is nominated under 2 categories of "Organic Skincare" and "Tinted Moisturiser". 

HerWorld is a popular Malaysian beauty magazine with a huge following and their yearly beauty awards are a big thing. It's a great achievement for a boutique non-mainstream brand.

MADARA wins the 2010 German Business Award news 03/06/2010

MADARA  wins the 2010 German Business Award

On 3 June, the 2010 German Business Award and a cash prize of EUR 5,000 (approximately Ls 3,510) were awarded to SIA "Madara Cosmetics".

Ilze Kroksa, Spokesperson of the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania explained that the jury commission was impressed by "Madara's" total commitment to boosting its exports, as well as its strong presence in foreign markets. In the commission's opinion, the company has successfully adapted to the fluctuating demands of consumers and won widespread recognition through its model of "green" thinking both in Latvia and overseas.

 "As a result of its active and targeted marketing activities, despite the impact of the prevailing economic crisis, the company has secured a foothold in new export markets, thus tripling its export volumes compared to last year. "Madara" also sells its cosmetics in prestigious cosmetics stores in Germany and has recently been selected as the exclusive brand of Germany's biggest cosmetics chain, "Douglas".

In addition to the EUR 5,000 cash prize, the company was also presented with a flight to Germany  to meet potential or existing business partners or to take part in an international trade fair.

Today, the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania  presented the German Business Award in Latvia for the 12th time.

MADARA - Making Huge Strides in Its Climb to the Top

On 27 May, at a formal ceremony to announce the results of the 2010 Top Companies Chart organised by Diena newspaper and Nords Porter Novelli, Madara Cosmetics received an award for topping the list of climbers in the "Biggest Reputation Climb" category.

According to Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnere, Board Chair, Madara Cosmetics, "Openness is the only way to combat rumours that can damage your reputation." In regard to the company's reputation overseas, as well as its standing right here in Latvia, Tisenkopfa-Iltnere says, "We have never deliberately nurtured our reputation. We simply work in a way that seems to be the right one for us - our reputation follows as a matter of course. Overseas, companies acquire their reputations in a very similar manner to the way they do in Latvia - through their product and simple communication channels that are affordable to us as a company. (…) Companies don't set out in business targeting reputation, but it is certainly a measure and indicator of a company's performance, i.e. how successful the company is in terms of the popularity of its products and its corporate sustainability.

Asked to comment on the growing success of Madara Cosmetics, DnB Nord Bank Expert, Peteris Strautins explains, "You don't have to look far to recognise the roots of Madara's success. It's a rapidly growing company and there can be no doubt that its size correlates to its public standing on which its position in the chart is in turn dependent. What's more, Madara is a decidedly outgoing company; communication is its strength." The company was also the subject of good words from the man responsible for devising the chart, Nords Porter Novelli Expert, Peteris Kisis:  "The key to this major achievement is that it was not achieved through barnstorming advertising campaigns, but rather through dedicated and goal-orientated work, creating products that are a hit in the expanding eco-cosmetics market outside Latvia and produced using ingredients grown right here in this country."

Last year, Madara Cosmetics was named "Latvia's Greenest Company". And the company has not entirely lost its hold on this title; this year it ranked 3rd in this category.

As in previous years, the survey was conducted by the marketing and public research centre, SKDS. Companies were judged and a separate "Top Reputation Chart" was compiled by independent experts - business leaders, social organisations, governmental bodies, industry association heads, academics and media representatives.

MADARA has been chosen as Latvia's ambassador during European SME Week 2010 and received a certificate of recognition from the European Commission for our goal-orientated and creative approach, as well as our contribution to the development of environmentally friendly business practice.

 

To strengthen the role of business throughout Europe, to stimulate environmentally friendly and business-accented thinking in society, European Commission has chosen 37 European SME Week 2010 ambassadors - companies from several countries around the world which, in a short space of time, have proven themselves to be fully fledged market players, developing innovative ideas and doing business successfully in the international arena.
European SME Week 2010 will take place from 25 May to 1 June.
